Hostel

Hostels offer budget-concentrated, friendly lodging where visitors can book a bed, normally a bunk bed, in a dorm - type setting and share a rest room, living room and in some cases a kitchen area. Bedrooms can be unisex, even though there are hostels that provide private rooms.

Hostels are normally more cost-effective for both the owner and the residents, a lot of hostels book long-term residents which they hire as housekeeping staff or desk clerks in return for free housing.

In several countries, like the UK, Ireland, Australia and India, the term hostel occasionally refers to housing establishments that provide longer-term accommodation where the hostels are often operated by Housing Associations and non profit organizations. In Pakistan, India and South Africa, the term hostel also pertains to student dormitories or boarding schools in resident universities and colleges. In other parts of the globe, the term hostel primarily refers to residential units that offer shared accommodation to backpackers, tourist or seasoned travelers.
